“Thinking of You” stenciled card
Hi Krafty friends, here’s a fall themed “Thinking of You” card…using fun layering stencils and a sentiment all cut out using your Cricut or any electronic cutting machine! And guess who designed the stencils and sentiment…yours truly…lol. You can find the SVG files for them both in my Etsy Shop.
Step 1: Using the stencils
First I cut out the 3 leaves layering stencil SVG out of Myler sheets I purchased on Amazon using my Cricut Maker. Tip: Keep your silhouette leaf cut outs to use as masks if you’d like for other makes! I did run the cut through my Cricut twice, because the sheets are thick, to make sure they were cut out well.
I made my card base from 110 lb Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card stock and inked directly on to the front of the card base. There’s three different leaf silhouette shapes in this layering stencil set. I taped the first leaf silhouette stencil on the card base covering the back flap of the card base to help not to blend ink on the back. And did one leaf stencil in orange, another in yellow and the last one in green. I then grabbed my heat tool to dry the inks before I went on to the next step. Then I grabbed the layering stencils for each leaf that had the cut out details on them and inked them all in a dark brown. This gave the leaves some detail. I then placed the heat tool on the card again to make sure the ink was dry.
Step 2: Splatters
The next step was simple. I wanted a little shimmer and I love splatters. So, I used my Tim Holtz Distressed Mica Spray in Antique gold and splatter it on! I just shook it up will and opened up the bottle and used the end of the tube of the spray/nozzle to splatter it on the card.
Step 3: Creating the Sentiment
I wanted a nice sized sentiment and to use one I created again as I really love them and the options in the bundles. I chose one of the pretty script fonts in the Thinking of You sentiment SVG file. I cut the shadow layer out of a shimmer gold cardstock I had, and the Thinking of You words out of some brown cardstock using my Cricut. Before taking the words of the sentiment off of the Cricut mat I used some Glad Press n Seal to Hold my letters together.
I felt the sentiment needed something else to break up the space between the sentiment and the background but nothing heavy looking. So I cut a piece of velum out using a shaped die from my stash with my Spellbinder Platinum 6 die cutting machine.
Step 4: Putting it all together
So, putting it all together was pretty simple as the background was not made using a lot of layers. I basically just glued my brown sentiment on top of it’s gold shadow layer. Next I took the shadow layer and centered it on top of the velum shape using some foam squares to give it some dimension. Then glued the put together sentiment in the middle of the card base that I stenciled.
So, there it is! The step-by-step process for this simple yet pretty fall themed Thinking of You card. I love layering stencils because you can use all the layers or just one or a couple and still have a cute background. Not to mention, with stencils you can use various mediums like ink, pastes, paint, etc. I hope you guys like this card, and that it gives you some inspiration for some layering stencils you may have in your stash.
Have you tried using layering stencils? If so, let me know in the comments how it came out and what products you used. And if not, there is a free SVG to cut out a layering stencil on my Freebies page. And if you love the one I used in this post you can find in the Etsy Shop!
