Create an Easter Cake Topper

Hey crafty friends, Tiffani here! Have you thought about dressing up your cake or pie for Easter? If so, I have a super cute cake topper you can create! I’ll also show you how to make it into a “shaker” cake topper for extra fun!

The pieces of the cake topper are cut from a digital file I designed, available in my Etsy Shop or the Silhouette Design Store. You can use this file with your electronic cutting machine to cut out all the pieces.

Cutting Out the Pieces

First, I cut out all the pieces using my electronic cutting machine. Here’s the card stock I used from CutCardStock.com:

  • Egg Shape: CutCardStock Cougar White 80lb cover cardstock

  • Happy Easter Outline: Bazzill Marble 80lb cardstock in Robin's Egg

  • Happy Easter Sentiment: CutCardStock Star Dream Metallic 105 lb in Gold

  • Grass Background: Bazzill Marble 80lb cardstock in Easter Grass

  • Leaves: CutCardStock Pop Tone in Gumdrop Green 65lb

  • Blue Flower: Bazzill Marble 80lb cardstock in Robin's Egg

  • Yellow Flower & Center of Blue Flower: 80lb textured Discount Cardstock in Yellow Jacket

  • Bunny & Pink Flower: 80lb textured Discount Cardstock in Pink Tutu

If you’re making a regular layered cake topper, you’ll need to use the small white egg-shaped piece behind the green grass background. To turn it into a shaker cake topper, cut an extra small egg shape from acetate, which will go behind the green grass before adding the foam tape and shaker bits.  Then you’d place the small white egg-shaped piece on top.

Putting It Together

  1. Layering the Pieces: Use pop dots or foam tape for dimension. Layer the pink bunny onto the green bunny, the pink flower onto the green part of the flower, the small blue flower onto the yellow flower, and the yellow flower onto the pink flower.

  2. Assembling the Topper: Layer your flowers and green leaves onto the green background, securing the bunny and pink flower as well.

  3. Creating the Shaker Effect: Flip the topper over and glue the acetate behind the green grass layer. Add foam tape around the edges of the green grass piece (so it won’t be visible through the acetate). Place shaker bits inside the acetate pocket.

  4. Sealing the Shaker: Glue the small white egg piece on top of the section containing the shaker bits.

  5. Adding the Sentiment: Attach the gold Happy Easter letters to the blue shadow layer, then glue this piece on top of the shaker element.

  6. Final Assembly: Add foam tape to the back of the blue shadow layer and attach it to the larger white egg layer. Secure plastic cake sticks to the back with hot glue, and add foam dots/tape in the other areas to make the backer egg piece lay evenly with the sticks.  Then cover with another large white egg piece for a clean finish to the back side.

Regular vs. Shaker Cake Topper

If you don’t want a shaker cake topper, simply skip the acetate and shaker bits step and assemble the layers with or without foam tape for depth. You can also use whatever color cardstock you may have from CutCardStock.com to match your Easter decor!

I think this topper turned out adorable, and I can’t wait to use it for Easter. Plus, after dessert, the kids can play with it! You can also find a quick tutorial on my YouTube channel showing how to assemble this cute cake topper.

I hope you love this design and give it a try! If you make one, let me know how it turns out. Thanks for reading, and happy crafting!
