Last Valentine’s Day card!
Hey Krafty friends, this card was also made using various products I had on hand. I wanted to use some products I never used before that had been sitting in my stash. This creation involved some ink blending, die cutting, shaker bits and stamping! A little involved. The hardest part was making the shaker. I had to improvise after making a mistake with my stencil on my card base! Read below for the steps.
Step 1: Using a stencil for my background
I made a card base out of some Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb. I took the base and stenciled one side using Altenew’s Color Block Hearts Stencil. I used my ink blending brushes and a couple of Catherine Pooler Inks in colors Fiesta Blue and Grape Crush. I ended up not placing the stencil correctly across my whole panel so the design was a little short on one side. To fix this I used a strip of blue glitter washi tape I had on hand to cover the blank strip on the right side.
Step 2: Die cutting for the shaker and stamping for the sentiment
For the shaker heart, I used Scrapbook.com’s Heart shape die and cut it three times out of some purple cardstock scraps. I glued two together for some dimension and save the third for after I cut out the acetate for the heart. I then grabbed some acetate I had saved from a package and traced the heart die with a marker and then cut it out inside the trace line by hand. Next, I glued the acetate behind the one heart piece I had put to the side and then glued that piece with the acetate on top of the doubled up piece. This gave some dimension to the inside of the heart so that I can add some sequin shaker bits. But first, I put some foam tape on the bottom. Then I put the sequins inside. Next, I cut another acetate heart and place it on top the back of the heart. This made the shaker piece secure and I could grab it and place it on the card base without worrying about the shaker bits falling out or placing it down incorrectly on the base.
Next, I used a stamp set by Hero Arts I had with various sentiments on it and used the Happy Valentines Day stamp and stamped it on a piece of white scrap cardstock in black Momento Ink. I then took the banner die piece from the Heart Die set and cut out the stamped sentiment using my Spellinders Platinum 6 cutting machine.
Step 3: Putting them all together
So, putting it all together was pretty easy. Especially since I made my shaker heart the way I did…all enclosed. I just place the completed shaker heart on top of the card base. Then I placed the cutout sentiment on top of the banner part of the die cut heart. I did end up stamping the inside of the card with a few hearts.
So, there it is! The step-by-step process for my last Valentine’s Day card for the year! I think the card came out pretty good considering my mistake. It looks like using the washi tape saved the card and it still didn’t look half bad. I hope you guys like this card, and that it gives you some inspiration and a way you could save a card if needed. Have you ever saved a card in the past? Let me know in the comments and how. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how I made this card or the supplies I used.
